Mets Get Clutch Win Versus Kansas City
The New York Mets faced a tough opponent in Kansas City pitcher Juan Flores, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Kauffman Stadium by a final score of 5-4. Flores went 7 innings and allowed 4 runs. Chris Cummings got credit for the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Earning the save was Willie Bryant. He's now cashed in 17 of 19 save opportunities.

Eric Platt came through with a big-time hit for New York. The left fielder smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Platt.

At 37-41, the Mets are currently 5th in the American League Northeast Division.
