The St. Louis Cardinals started the Wild Card Series in style today, winning on the road against the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium 1977-2004 by a score of 6-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Cardinals right-hander Jason Johnson threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball.

St. Louis used a timely hit from Luis Rivas to get the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

Johnson said his team "played with determination."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Olympic Stadium 1977-2004 in Montreal.
