5 Straight Wins for Indians
|
Cleveland starter Jon Lester pitched effectively against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium 1988-2008. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. In 6.1 innings, Lester surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Carl Edwards Jr. closed the game out for Cleveland, earning his 2nd save.
Cleveland used a clutch at-bat from Kevin Kiermaier to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Indians ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Jon throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Cleveland manager Jake Indians.
The first-place Yankees have lost 4 consecutive games.
