Raucous Skydome Crowd Propels Blue Jays to 3-1 Victory; Series Tied at 3
|
The Toronto Blue Jays and the Houston Astros will take the World Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Blue Jays beat the Astros 3-1 at Skydome to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Toronto right-hander Hideki Irabu had a big role in the win. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball.
Trot Nixon, the Toronto right fielder, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 3-1, Blue Jays. For the game, Nixon went 1 for 2 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Toronto manager Rosscoe Blue Jays.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Ismael Valdez for the Houston Astros and Roy Halladay for the the Toronto Blue Jays.
