With starter Jason Schmidt leading the charge, the Houston Astros defeated the Atlanta Braves, 6-4, in Game 3 of the Championship Series today. The right-hander threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball at Turner Field to help Houston take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Benji Gil, the 26-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Gil contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Houston up, 1-0.

Gil called the triumph "a good team win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Turner Field. Slated to start are Tony Saunders for the Houston Astros and Justin Thompson for the the Atlanta Braves.
