The performance of Alex Avila proved critical in helping Boston beat Cleveland, 7-5. The Red Sox catcher went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Boston reliever Jacob Barnes snagged the win, upping his record to 4-1. Yovani Gallardo shouldered the loss. The win boosted Boston to 63-63.

The game was all tied up in the top of the tenth, until Avila delivered big-time for Boston, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Yovani Gallardo. The game-changing hit put the Red Sox on top, 7-5.
