Giants Win to Tie Series with Phillies
|
The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies will take the League Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Giants beat the Phillies 5-1 at Veterans Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. San Francisco right-hander Pat Rapp had a big role in the win. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Brent Gates to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Giants on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said San Francisco skipper New Giants.
Game 7 is scheduled for tomorrow in Philadelphia. Slated to start are Pat Rapp for the San Francisco Giants and Kenny Rogers for the the Philadelphia Phillies.
