Philadelphia Wins Game 5 in Extras; On Verge of WS
|
The Philadelphia Phillies went into extra innings against the San Francisco Giants but ultimately moved to within one game of the World Series today. The Phillies downed the Giants at Candlestick Park by a score of 9-1. Philadelphia right-hander John Burkett had a solid outing. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Phillies a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Darren Daulton to capture the win. The catcher drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the 16th inning to give the Phillies the lead, 2-1. For the game, Daulton had 1 single and 1 double in 7 at-bats.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Daulton.
Game 6 is scheduled for Sunday, October 29th, 1995 at Veterans Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Mark Gubicza for San Francisco and Pedro Astacio for Philadelphia.
