In a pivotal Game 5, the Atlanta Braves were hoping for a big game from starter Pedro J Martinez. They got one.

The right-hander shut out the Colorado Rockies, proving to be the difference-maker as he led his club to a 4-0 victory. The Braves took the 4-0 win over the Colorado Rockies to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Martinez, a native of Dominican Republic, was dealing all game. He kept Colorado hitters off-balance, while giving the Braves 7.1 quality innings. Martinez threw 109 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6.

"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Martinez. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."

The next game is scheduled for Friday at Coors Field. The scheduled starters for the game are John Smoltz for Atlanta and Hideo Nomo for Colorado.
