When the games really matter, the Boston Red Sox put on their best show, beating the Texas Rangers by a final score of 6-4 today. Matt Holliday was 2-4 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Boston now leads Texas 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair.

Boston used the timely hitting of Alex Avila to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Avila. "And not try to do too much."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wednesday, October 8th , 2014.
