Almost There: San Francisco On Cusp of WC Triumph After 2-1 Win

The San Francisco Giants moved to within one game of the Divisional Series, downing the Chicago Cubs on the road at Wrigley Field 1979-2005 by a score of 2-1. Giants right-hander Josh Tomlin had a strong outing. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Giants a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
San Francisco won the game in part because of Whit Merrifield. The second baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Giants ahead, 2-0. For the game, Merrifield had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We did just enough to win," Tomlin said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wrigley Field 1979-2005 in Chicago.
