Minnesota second baseman Matt Downs made his presence felt in the 8-6 Twins triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays. Downs was 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. James Shields, the winner, goes to 6-12. He allowed 6 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Kenley Jansen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 21 of 22 save opportunities.

Downs contributed in the bottom of the second. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped Minnesota get the win.
