Home Field Advantage: Sheets, Tampa Bay Open Wild Card Series with Win
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays started the Wild Card Series in style today, downing the visiting Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field by a score of 4-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Devil Rays right-hander Ben Sheets threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball.

An important at-bat for the Devil Rays came in the bottom of the eighth, when first baseman Tony Clark stroked a 2-run triple. That made the score 3-1 in favor of Tampa Bay. For the day, Clark was 2-4 with a triple, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Clark said after the game.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sunday, September 24th , 2006.
