Houston Gets 3-2 Win Versus St. Louis in 14
|
The Houston Astros faced a tough opponent in St. Louis pitcher Sonny Gray, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Busch Stadium 1997-2005 by a final score of 3-2 in 14 innings. Gray went 7.1 innings and allowed no runs. Tyler Clippard, now 6-4, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. The third-place Astros improved to 66-94.
Houston needed the clutch hitting of Freddy Galvis to seal the deal. The shortstop swatted a solo home run in the top of the 14th inning to put the Astros on top, 3-2. For the game, Galvis had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was terrific getting this win," Galvis said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
