Mets Score Late, Top Giants, 4-1
|
The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, at Shea Stadium 1979-2008. Starting pitcher Matt Harvey was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The win went to James Karinchak in relief, making him now 8-8. Seth Lugo took the loss for San Francisco. Raisel Iglesias notched his 27th save in 37 chances.
New York took a 3-1 lead on Fernando Tatis Jr.'s 37th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Tatis Jr. hit in the bottom of the eighth, left San Francisco pitcher Seth Lugo visibly frustrated.
In comments to the New York News, Harvey admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
The Mets sport a record of 66-95.
