Mets Drop Astros, 5-3
|
Starting pitcher Derek Holland pitched well enough to help the New York Mets beat the Houston Astros, 5-3. The winning pitcher was Holland, now 12-8. He tossed 5 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. The Mets, at 69-85, inhabit last place in the NL East Division.
Fernando Tatis Jr. had a big 2-run triple for the Mets in the top of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Chad Billingsley, who finished 4th in the AL in strikeouts with 221 in 2009, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 4th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 3-0.
New York manager Ethan Smith commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
