Cardinals Edge Rockies, 5-4
|
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Colorado Rockies, 5-4, in NL action at Busch Stadium 1997-2005. St. Louis pitcher Nestor Cortes had a standout performance. Cortes, now 8-11, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. The last-place Cardinals are now 73-80, the Rockies 83-70.
St. Louis center fielder Victor Robles contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a cutter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 55th hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 5-2.
"We found a way to get it done," Robles said.
