New York Defeated By Pirates, 7-3
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Tommy Hanson found his groove in his team's 7-3 win over the New York Mets. Hanson yielded 3 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 11-9. Pittsburgh has 3 straight wins, New York 4 straight losses.
Anthony Rizzo had a big 2-run double for the Pirates in the bottom of the first inning. With Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from former first round draft pick Jorge de la Rosa and swatted a double to right. It was his 32nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 3-0.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Pittsburgh manager John Smith.
