With Late Score, Pirates Beat Braves
|
Pittsburgh pitcher Luiz Gohara had a large part in his team beating the Atlanta Braves, 4-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Reliever Corey Kluber picked up the win. His record improves to 8-1. Jean Machi, who signed a 2-year contract worth $4,240,000 on 12/29/2017, took the loss. The first-place Pirates, at 80-60, lead the NL Central Division by 4 games.
The decisive blow was delivered by Rafael Devers in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off former first round draft pick Jean Machi to win the game for Pittsburgh. The home crowd went nuts.
"It was a good effort all around," said Devers.
