Mariners Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
Seattle and Texas played a hard-fought contest.
The Seattle Mariners had to overcome a good performance from Texas pitcher Cole Hamels to claim a 3-2 win at The Ballpark in Arlington 1994-2011. Hamels went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Seattle reliever Carson Smith picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Jonathan Broxton absorbed the loss.
Byron Buxton came through with a big-time hit for Seattle. The center fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Seattle manager .
Seattle's record now stands at 24-31, placing them 4th in the AL West Division.
