Pirates Win at Florida, 4-3
|
Pittsburgh picked up a win at Sunlife Stadium 1993-2011, bumping off the Florida Marlins, 4-3. Pitcher Bryan Rekar was a major reason the Pirates emerged victorious. Rekar went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 2. His record improves to 9-7. Eric Gagne, credited with the save, is now 38 for 39 in save opportunities.
Jason Varitek had a productive trip to the plate with one out in the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run, helping Pittsburgh to the win.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Varitek said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The first-place Pirates, at 85-53, now lead their division by 12½ games.
