Indians Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Tigers, 4-3
|
The Cleveland Indians did just enough to sneak past the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, at Comerica Park. Cleveland pitcher Bronson Arroyo, in particular, had a standout performance. Arroyo, now 9-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Cleveland now has a record of 84-56 with the win.
Cleveland used a timely hit from Alex Gonzalez to get the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Indians ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I was a little disappointed," said Detroit manager Terrence Tigers. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
