The Detroit Tigers weathered a fine game by Chicago shortstop Jack E Wilson to upend the White Sox, 6-4, at Comerica Park. Wilson went 4 for 4 with 4 singles. Detroit pitcher Ben McDonald got the win, upping his record to 6-7. Clint Sodowsky got the loss. With the win, Detroit raised its record to 70-64.

Mark Ellis had a key at-bat with two out in the bottom of the fourth for Detroit. With the bases loaded and the Tigers leading 3-1, he hit a 2-run single.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Ellis.
