|
The New York Yankees topped the Boston Red Sox, 9-3, in AL action at Fenway Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York third baseman Alex S Gonzalez. Jake Westbrook, the winning pitcher, improved to 12-9. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. The win puts New York at 53-82.
With New York leading 6-3 in the top of the ninth, Gonzalez hit a slider from Sun-Woo Kim for a bases-clearing double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 9-3.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Gonzalez.
