Phillies Fall Short, 4-3, at St. Louis
|
The Philadelphia Phillies got a sterling performance from right fielder Richard Hidalgo, but the St. Louis Cardinals still prevailed, 4-3. Hidalgo went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times. Dave Burba picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-10. Danny Kolb was tagged with the loss. The third-place Cardinals have a record of 65-66.
Jason Kendall went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs for St. Louis. The three-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Joey Eischen. It was his 16th RBI of the season.
Kendall called the triumph "a good team win."
