Cubs Beat Giants, 4-1
|
The Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, at Oracle Park. Starting pitcher Yordano Ventura was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The winning pitcher was Ventura, now 9-10. He tossed 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. With the win, Chicago raised its record to 74-58.
Chicago won the game in part because of Josh Reddick. The designated hitter ripped a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-1. For the game, Reddick had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Yordano was pounding the zone," said Chicago manager Irish Turner.
