Phillies Bridle Cardinals, 3-1
|
The Philadelphia Phillies went home winners at Citizens Bank Park 2004-2005, thanks in large part to starter Domingo Germán. Germán stifled the St. Louis Cardinals, enabling Philadelphia to grab the 3-1 win. Germán got the win, improving to 5-8. He gave up 7 hits and walked 0 over 8.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. The win has Philadelphia at 40-72.
Eric Hosmer had a big solo home run for the Phillies in the bottom of the third inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a sinker from Spencer Turnbull, who is the 2nd-best prospect in the Cardinals organization, and punished it. The result was his 15th home run of the season, which put the Phillies on top, 2-0.
"Tough loss," said St. Louis manager AU Cards. "But we'll learn from it."
