Braves Suffer One-Run Loss at New York
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown New York Mets take on the Atlanta Braves.
The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves, 6-5, in NL action at Shea Stadium 1979-2008. New York pitcher Matt Harvey had a standout performance. The winner was John Axford in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Chris Leroux took the loss. Craig Kimbrel earned the save, his 13th in 13 tries.
New York took a 6-5 lead on Shohei Ohtani's 10th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Ohtani hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Atlanta pitcher Chris Leroux visibly frustrated.
"Matt did a good job keeping the game under control," said New York manager Ethan Smith.
The last-place Braves have lost 4 straight games.
