Astros first baseman Joe Mauer left his mark on his team's 7-3 win over the New York Mets. Mauer, who finished 2nd in the AL in doubles with 52 in 2005, went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for Houston in the contest. Houston occupies third place in the NL West Division at 23-34.

With Houston leading 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Mauer hit a 2-run single off New York hurler Max Scherzer. It was the 57th hit of the season for Mauer and put his team ahead, 7-2.

"We didn't play well enough to win," said New York skipper Ethan Smith.
