Braves Handed 5-1 Loss by St. Louis
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium 1997-2005, knocking off the Atlanta Braves, 5-1. Starting pitcher Brett Anderson was a big reason why. Anderson, the winner, moves to 2-2. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk. The save went to Edward Mujica, his 9th this season.
Vladimir Guerrero, who led the NL in batting average with .357 in 1997, chipped in for St. Louis with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Guerrero said after the game.
With the victory, the Cardinals upped their record to 22-16.
