With 3-1 Win, Cardinals Improve to 19-15
|
The St. Louis Cardinals earned a close win over the San Francisco Giants, thanks in part to Josh Beckett. The St. Louis right-hander, who finished 2nd in the NL in strikeouts with 237 in 2009, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. In 7.1 innings, Beckett surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. With the win, the Cardinals have a record of 19-15.
In the top of the ninth, Ian Happ stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Giants were trailing 3-1, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Antonio Bastardo made a terrific pitch and Happ struck out. Gone was the dream of a San Francisco comeback.
