Starting pitcher Sonny Gray fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the St. Louis Cardinals stymie the New York Mets, 5-2. Eric O'Flaherty earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Brandon Cumpton closed it out for his 1st save.

St. Louis took control in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Carl Crawford hit a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Cardinals.

"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said St. Louis manager AU Cards. "That's what Sonny is right now."

The win moves St. Louis to a record of 3-4.
