Indians Deny Yankees, 3-2
|
The Cleveland Indians got a stellar effort from pitcher Jonathan Pettibone, helping Cleveland score a win over the visiting New York Yankees, 3-2. New York, at 74-82, has lost 5 straight.
Had Mallex Smith not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Smith hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Indians.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said New York skipper , "and it cost us."
