Mariners Roll to 9-3 Win Over Blue Jays
|
Good production from first baseman Darwin Barney helped the Seattle Mariners topple the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-3. Barney was 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Mariners. Walker Buehler, who leads the AL in quality starts with 20, was the winner. He's now 16-10. The loser was Sean Manaea. The 4th-place Blue Jays now sit at 61-95.
The Blue Jays had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Mariners going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old second baseman Brett Lawrie came to the plate. Lawrie hit a 3-run home run on a 2-2 sinker from Toronto hurler Jake Diekman. It was Lawrie's 10th home run of the year.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Lawrie.
