Hillsboro's Fennessey Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits
Thursday, August 28th , 2059
Hillsboro shortstop Eric Fennessey added his name to the record books with a 5-hit spree at Volcanoes Stadium, but found his special moment spoiled when the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes took a shootout win, 12-11, over the Hops.
"I would have much preferred getting only a couple of hits and winning the game," he confessed to reporters afterward. "It's hard to go back into the clubhouse and celebrate a 5-hit game when you also lost."
Hops manager called Fennessey's game "a once-in-a-lifetime moment."
"It's a shame the guy can't really enjoy it," the skipper said. "It's also a shame what happened with our pitching, but at least that we can try to fix."
Eric Fennessey singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 9th and flied out in the 10th.
So far this season, Fennessey has 3 home runs and a .271 batting average.
