The Wichita Wind Surge beat the Round Rock Express, 5-4, in part because of third baseman Dashawn Avent. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. Josh Cooley, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Picking up the save was 21-year old right-handed pitcher Dave D'Amico.
Ian Schermerhorn, who is tied for 6th in the PCL in home runs with 6, aided the Wichita cause with a 2-run triple in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the left fielder went 1-5 with a triple, while adding 2 RBI.
"See ball, hit ball. When I think too much, that's when I get in trouble," Avent told the Wichita Gazette.
Wichita sits in second place in the Pacific Coast League South Division at 21-16.
