The Gwinnett Stripers beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 4-1, at Fifth Third Field. Gwinnett designated hitter Jeff Upchurch had the hot bat. He hit 2 home runs. The winning pitcher was Jon Cadena. He tossed 89 pitches over 7.1 innings, allowing no runs on 5 hits. Micah Kilburn earned the save, his 13th, for the Stripers.
With Gwinnett leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Upchurch came up to bat against Toledo pitcher Ron Scott. Upchurch hit a fastball to left for a solo home run. His 12th home run of the season put the Stripers on top, 2-0.
"I really like what we did out there today," Upchurch said after the game.
Gwinnett now owns a record of 37-24.
