Norfolk designated hitter Dan McCarthy had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 9-8, to Lehigh Valley in 10 innings. McCarthy was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 3 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Lehigh Valley reliever Tim Stroud picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Curt Gamel took the loss. Lehigh Valley is now 30-25.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Lehigh Valley. That's when Jon Melin hit a bases-clearing double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Curt Gamel to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Melin.
