Hurler Kevin Griffith gave the Indianapolis Indians a solid start. The native of Hazel Dell North, Washington helped his team defeat the Syracuse Mets, 1-0, at Victory Field. The save went to Victor Gaitan, number 2 for him. Syracuse, at 8-19, is off to a poor start in 2059.

Had Jim Shaw not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Shaw hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Indians.

Shaw called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
