IronPigs Hammered by O'Connor, Drop Game 1 to Isotopes
|
As the Albuquerque Isotopes and Lehigh Valley IronPigs battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.
Young Albuquerque right fielder Tim O'Connor, 23 led the way with a strong hitting performance in the 10-inning marathon. O'Connor was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 during the 5-4 Albuquerque win over the IronPigs. The win gives the Isotopes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 Triple A Championship.
Albuquerque used the timely hitting of Billy Gant to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Isotopes on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Albuquerque manager said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.
