Staten Island Breaks Through for First Win in Round 1; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Staten Island Yankees have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Tri-City ValleyCats, winning, 7-1, at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Yankees right-hander Andres Zea threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Yankees to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Round 1.
Staten Island used the hitting of Jon Foster to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees on top, 7-1. For the game, Foster had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Yankees manager , "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.
