The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes easily defeated the Vancouver Canadians, 12-0, at Volcanoes Stadium, with first baseman Pete Houser a main contributor to the win. He was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 8 runs and scored twice for Salem-Keizer. Billy Henges snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Chad Parkinson suffered the loss. Salem-Keizer is third in the Northwest League South Division with a record of 18-13.
With Salem-Keizer leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Houser came up to bat against Vancouver pitcher Chad Parkinson. Houser hit a slider to left for a grand slam home run. His 7th home run of the season put the Volcanoes on top, 5-0.
"Nothing to write home about," Vancouver manager said, when asked afterward about the game.
