Hopkins, Indians Beat Dust Devils, 8-5
|
Spokane and Tri-City duked it out and the Indians came out victorious.
The Spokane Indians defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils, 8-5, at Avista Stadium. Spokane was led by 21-year old right fielder Fritz Hopkins, who was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. The winner was Spokane reliever Johnny Diaz, now 4-1. The loser was Danny Correa.
Hopkins contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Spokane in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Hopkins took a changeup from Danny Correa and stroked the home run to right-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Indians to leap in front, 4-1.
"Anytime you're seeing it well, it's a good feeling," Hopkins told the Spokane Today.
With the win, Spokane goes to 16-19, while the Dust Devils fall to 17-18.
