Though he had a stellar game, Mike Sigmon could not prevent his team, the Everett AquaSox, from losing, 5-2, to the Eugene Emeralds. Sigmon went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. The winner was Steve Prichard in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Omar Olmeda took the loss. Earning his 7th save for Eugene was Sam Hatfield.
A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Emeralds sent 20-year-old shortstop Eddie McCarty to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a run-scoring single, to put Eugene on top, 3-1.
"Good win for us," said McCarty. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
The win for the Emeralds raised their record to 16-11.
