ValleyCats Rough Up Spikes, 9-3
|
Tri-City and State College got after it at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
The Tri-City ValleyCats beat the State College Spikes by a score of 9-3. Tri-City first baseman Cesar Villegas deserved the lion's share of the credit. Villegas was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the ValleyCats. David Zetina earned the save for Tri-City, his 1st.
Villegas contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Tri-City in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-1, Villegas took a fastball from Jim Flowers and stroked the home run to right-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the ValleyCats to leap in front, 3-2.
Said losing manager : "We did everything to set the stage for them to beat us."
The ValleyCats sit in 4th place in the New York-Penn League North Division with a record of 36-32.
