Gutierrez Leads Spikes to 5-4 Win Over ValleyCats
|
The State College Spikes defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats, 5-4, at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. State College shortstop Marco Gutierrez had a superb performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Robert Garza notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. The Spikes raised their record to 19-48.
State College grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Gutierrez hit a 3-run home run off Harif Timmons. His 1st home run of the season put the Spikes out in front, 3-0.
Gutierrez told the State College Bulletin: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
