The Staten Island Yankees defeated the Reading Braves, 8-4, in New York-Penn League action at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Staten Island pitcher Adrian Escalante had a standout performance. The Yankees have an impressive 44-26 record.

The Yankees got a big boost from shortstop Greg Neary who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Braves hurler Ozzie Venegas. It was his 30th walk of the season and put Staten Island on top, 1-0.

"Adrian did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said Staten Island manager .
