Rivas Strokes 5 Hits
|
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Danny Rivas got his name recorded today, but the Sundumbili Crunch picked up the win at Crunch Stadium, topping the Randfontein Spurs, 10-4.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager . "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Rivas, who is tied for 10th in the WL in home runs with 17, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the left fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
Danny Rivas singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Sammer Khalfani in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
For the season, Rivas is currently batting .277 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs. In 100 games he has reached base at a .397 rate and scored 58 runs to date.
