Slumping Pelicans Lose Again
Winston-Salem pitcher Chris Staggs did his part in helping his team beat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Staggs yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 0. His record improves to 8-8. Sylvain Chauvet earned the save for Winston-Salem, his 2nd.

Winston-Salem used a well-timed hit by Rob Fritch to capture the win. The shortstop socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Dash ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

Afterward, Myrtle Beach manager said: "Every team has a bad week."

The 7th-place Dash now have a record of 65-62.
