Pitcher Mario Tirado was rock solid in helping the Lynchburg Hillcats beat the San Jose Giants, 6-0. The second-place Hillcats sport a record of 72-55.
Lynchburg shortstop Kevin Vail produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the top of the eighth with Vince Quick on the mound and Lynchburg leading 1-0. Vail drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Lynchburg manager . "Our pregame was pretty good."
